Teeth consist of two main parts, namely the crown and the root. Implants are biocompatible titanium screws designed to replace missing teeth by mimicking the function of natural tooth roots. They are commonly known as “screw-in teeth” among the public. These screws are surgically placed into the jawbone, where they are expected to function as roots. Subsequently, prosthetic teeth are placed on top of them. Since tooth loss can impact other teeth as well, implant treatment is not only crucial for achieving desired aesthetics but also for maintaining oral and dental health.
How is an implant done?
The first step in implant treatment is a comprehensive examination conducted by your dentist using X-rays, and if necessary, it’s supported by tomography. A decision is made about the patient’s suitability for implants. The process of the implant, which is placed into the bone, integrating with the bone and ensuring healing, can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Simply put, implant treatment, also known as “screw-in tooth,” involves the placement of a titanium screw to address both cosmetic and functional issues caused by a missing tooth. Like any surgical procedure, necessary preparations are completed before treatment, and the procedure is carried out based on the patient’s condition. The duration of the treatment is determined by the individual’s overall health, bone structure, and the current condition of the bone. After applying local anesthesia, an appropriate space is opened in the jawbone, the screw is placed, and the gum is closed. In the following stage, the integration of the screw with the bone is awaited. Finally, an upper prosthesis is placed onto the integrated screw.
