Root Canal Treatment

We often neglect to give our teeth proper care. Despite appearing strong and sturdy, our teeth can be susceptible to bacterial invasion, which can lead to infections. In some cases, these bacteria can progress toward the tooth roots and cause infections. As these bacteria advance and reach the nerves within the tooth roots, they can result in severe pain. To prevent further complications from infections that have reached the pulp, a treatment called root canal therapy is performed to clean and treat the affected area.

Root Canal Treatment

DOur tooth consists of two fundamental parts, the crown and the root. Deformations in the tooth or the penetration of bacteria into the root of the tooth can lead to an infection of the inner part of the tooth known as the pulp. If this infection is left untreated, it can cause severe pain, abscess formation, or in advanced cases, it can damage the jawbone.

Root canal treatment, simply put, is the process of opening a canal in the tooth to clean the pulp (tooth’s innermost part) and remove the nerves, aiming to prevent severe pain and complications caused by bacterial infection that enters the tooth’s root due to factors like cracks or decay. Root canal treatment is chosen only when the infection has reached the tooth’s root or pulp. Previous stages of infection are often treatable with a simple filling and cleaning procedure. This procedure can be performed in one or several sessions, and patients do not experience pain during the process.
